Frequently Asked Questions
Question
Why do some links display multiple product models?
Answer
Some affiliates will combine product models such as size, capacity, or color on a single page. For example:
Affiliate SSD
1 TB
2 TB
4 TB
In this circumstance, when we send you to the page you will see all the choices and the affiliate determines which choice will be the default.
Question
Why do some affiliates want you to add an item to your cart before showing the sale price?
Answer
The primary reason for this practice is to comply with Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) policies set by manufacturers. These policies dictate the lowest price at which a retailer can advertise a product, but not necessarily the price at which they can sell it.
Pricing Strategy Benefits
Circumventing MAP restrictions: By showing the price only in the cart, retailers can technically sell items below the MAP without violating advertising agreements.
Protecting brand value: This approach helps maintain a product's perceived value and prevents price erosion.
Encouraging engagement: It prompts potential customers to take an additional step, potentially increasing the likelihood of a purchase.
Limiting price comparisons: It makes it harder for competitors and price comparison tools to track and match prices.
Diy Solid State Drive does not endorse this strategy and would prefer affiliates openly post their best price with requiring customers jump through hoops.
Question
Where is the home button located?
Answer
The site logo serves as a universal home button, allowing users to return to the homepage at any point. This is a common web design convention, providing a familiar and efficient way to navigate.
Question
What is strikethrough pricing?
Answer
Strikethrough pricing is a marketing strategy where the price of a product is displayed with a line through it, followed by a discounted price.
The effectiveness of strikethrough pricing lies in its ability to create a sense of urgency and appeal to impulse buyers. When customers see the original price crossed out, they perceive they're getting a better deal, even if they are not familiar with the product's price history.
However, retailers must be careful to implement strikethrough pricing legally and ethically. In the European Union, for instance, retailers must display the lowest price from the previous 30 days when showing a price reduction. Additionally, the original price must be genuine and have been available for a significant period, as artificially inflating prices just before a sale to show bigger discounts is prohibited.
We do not display strikethrough pricing but do display the discount percentage if it is available.
Question
How are product discounts calculated?
Answer
Imagine a product with a strikethrough price of $100 and a current discounted price of $80. To calculate the discount percentage, follow these steps:
Determine the Discount Amount:
Subtract the discounted price from the strikethrough price: $100 - $80 = $20.
This $20 represents the amount you'll save.
Calculate the Discount Percentage:
Divide the discount amount by the strikethrough price: $20 / $100 = 0.2.
Multiply the result by 100 to convert it to a percentage: 0.2 * 100 = 20%.
Therefore, the product is 20% off its original price. This means you'll save 20% compared to the original strikethrough price.
Question
Is the Search & Price Tool Updated?
Answer
To enhance the user experience we have revised the price list page. Our aim is to equip you with the tools that enable you to access the information you need with minimal clicks. We have added dropdown selections for brand, product, and capacity on both desktop and mobile platforms. Additionally, desktop users can now switch between gallery and grid views. Advanced options to search, group, filter, and sort data are still available on desktop.
Question
What is the difference between a product catalog and a product list?
Answer
Product Catalog
A product catalog provides a comprehensive overview of items, including:
Detailed descriptions
High-quality images
In-depth product information
This format helps potential buyers gain a thorough understanding of the products, enabling them to make informed purchasing decisions.
Product List
In contrast, a product list offers a more streamlined approach:
Concise enumeration of products
Basic details (e.g., product names, intended uses)
Straightforward presentation
diy Solid State Drive's Approach
diy Solid State Drive combines both concepts effectively:
Uses a product list as a table of contents for the catalog
Allows sorting, filtering, and grouping of products
Facilitates easy navigation to find specific items
This hybrid approach provides users with a quick overview while still offering access to detailed product information when needed.
Question
Can I search the price list by price?
Answer
The desktop version of the new Search & Price tool gives you full control over filtering results by price.
Question
What is the meaning of $ Update?
Answer
Prices are checked roughly every two weeks. We update changes as needed and note the date it occurred.
Question
Why do I occasionally see pricing discrepancies between the pricing page and the vendor page?
Answer
Product pricing is exclusively set and owned by the affiliate. diySSD merely displays this information as a service to our users. While we strive to maintain accurate and up-to-date pricing data, fluctuations and discrepancies will occur due to the dynamic nature of pricing and the potential delays in data synchronization.
Please note that temporary price adjustments related to specific promotional events, such as Black Friday, are treated as separate promotions and may not reflect standard pricing. We regularly conduct pricing audits to minimize inconsistencies but cannot guarantee real-time accuracy. In all circumstances, the price of the product is the price displayed on the vendor website.
Question
How are affiliates selected?
Answer
For the most part product availability determines the affiliates we use. Generally speaking you will see Amazon, B&H, Best Buy, and Newegg. Raspberry products from certified retailers. You may also see manufacturer stores. We do not give any preference to any of our affiliates and ultimately the choice of where to shop is yours. We encourage you to select the retailer that best meets your needs and preferences.
Question
What does it mean if an SSD is console compliant?
Answer
It is important to identify SSDs which are compatible with gaming consoles. Gaming consoles typically have restrictions on the maximum capacity of additional storage. For instance, the PS5 supports M.2 SSDs up to 4TB. Performance requirements are also specific to ensure smooth gameplay and fast loading times.
Desktop computers generally have no strict limitations on storage capacity, allowing users to add multiple high-capacity drives as needed.
There is also the issue of cooling. Gaming consoles have very specific heatsink requirements.
