October Updates
Hey everyone! We've made some significant improvements to the site this month. Here's what's new.
What We're About
Everything we do at diySSD centers around three core areas: Pricing, Promotion, and Content (we call it our PPC strategy, not to be confused with Pay Per Click).
Pricing means keeping our affiliate prices current and maintaining the product database. Promotion happens through our YouTube channel with G.G. and Jigsaw (yeah, those are their gaming handles). Content includes our blog posts and news articles, plus the usual site maintenance to keep things running smoothly.
A Quick Apology
We know the constant updates lately have been a bit much, and we're sorry for the inconvenience. Going forward, we'll only push changes when we need to fix bugs or address critical issues.
What's New on the Front Page
We've redesigned the homepage with three main components to help you find what matters most.
New Menu Bar
The new menu bar lets you select what you want when you want it. The main categories are Product, Pricing, Blog and Support. The menu adapts seamlessly to different screen sizes for optimal viewing on any device and it's always visible.
Activity Log
Transparency matters to us, so we've added an activity log at the top of the page. It shows the top four things we're currently working on—no mystery, just straight updates on what we're doing.
Showcase
This section highlights something cool happening in the SSD community. Usually it's a new game that really benefits from solid state storage, or a newly released storage device worth checking out.
Discounts
No more hunting around for deals. We've put discounted products front and center, organized by discount percentage. If you're looking for a bargain, start here.
Better Design Language
We've updated all the product cards to follow one simple rule: put what's important first.
On the front page, you see discount percentages. On pricing pages, you see the price. In the product catalog, you see the image and product name. Simple, right?
We've also cleaned up how we handle data. Prices now display in whole dollars (no one needs to see 99 cents). If something's out of stock, we don't show pricing—because why would you care what it costs if you can't buy it?
Plus, we've added helpful tips throughout the site to answer common questions.
Pricing Pages: More Options, More Control
Our pricing system has grown from one overwhelming page into seven specialized views. Here's the breakdown:
Complete Pricing – Everything from all our affiliated retailers in one place
Retailer-Specific Pages – Separate pages for Amazon, B&H, Best Buy, Newegg, and manufacturer direct sites
Expanded - Advance search options
All pricing pages (except the Expanded Catalog) use dual-sided cards that flip to show you detailed product information at a glance.
Understanding Pricing Cards
Front Side:
Est. Price – Current affiliate price rounded to the nearest dollar (updated as of the Est. Price Date, though prices can change frequently)
Product – Full product name
Product Model – Form factor and interface specs
Capacity – Storage size
Affiliate – Amazon, B&H, Best Buy, Newegg, or manufacturer
Affiliate Options – Direct link to buy
Discount – Current promotional savings as of the Est. Price Date
Est. Price Date – When we last verified the price
Back Side:
Product Image – So you know what it looks like
Product Model – Repeated here in case the front side got truncated
$/GB – Price per gigabyte for easy comparison
Comments – Additional notes when relevant
SKU – Stock keeping unit for tracking
Product Availability – We only show in-stock items
Expanded Catalog for Power Users
Need more search control? The Expanded Pricing Catalog page uses a streamlined single-sided card format with advanced sorting, searching, and powerful filtering. Perfect for when you know exactly what you're looking for and want to cut through the noise.
